Spooks & Spikes: Halloween Blind Draw Coed Sand Quads

Join us for HDVA's Halloween blind draw tournament: good volleyball, new teammates, costumes, and a fun day on the sand. No team needed. Just register, show up, and play.
📍 Pine Nursery Park Sand Courts
📅 Saturday, October 24
⏰ Check-in 8:00 AM · First serve 8:30 AM
How It Works
Register individually as Upper (BB/A+) or Lower (C/B)
Teams are randomly drawn on October 23
Every team gets 2 Upper and 2 Lower players
Everyone checks in individually on the day, even though teams are already set
🎃 Costumes
Costumes are strongly encouraged: solo, coordinated with your team, or completely ridiculous. Awards may include Best Costume, Best Team Costume, and Most Creative / Questionable Costume. Just make sure you can still play safely.
Format
Pool play into bracket play, with seeding from pool results. Single or double elimination and match scoring depend on final registration. We'll share the final format before play starts.
Player Levels
Upper (BB/A+): experienced players comfortable with faster, more structured outdoor volleyball
Lower (C/B): recreational and intermediate players still building consistency or outdoor experience
Please register honestly. Balanced pools are what make the blind draw work. Not sure where you fit? Reach out before you register.
Rules
We'll generally follow USAV beach rules, adjusted for sand 4's:
No open-hand serve receive unless clean
Fingertip sets must be clean
Hard-driven balls can be doubled on first contact (true reaction plays)
Hand sets over the net follow standard alignment rules
Net contact while playing the ball is a fault
No required girl touch
Teams ref when assigned and report scores promptly
🏆 Prizes
Champions and costume winners may take home HDVA credits, merch, or sponsor prizes. Details will be announced before play.
Good to Know
Plan to stay for the full event. We can't take individual scheduling requests.
Late arrivals may lead to point, set, or match forfeits to keep things on schedule.
Can't make it? Let HDVA know ASAP, and don't transfer your spot without our approval.
Rain alone won't cancel play, but lightning or unsafe conditions might. Registered players will get any weather updates.
This event mixes experience levels on purpose. Compete hard, encourage your teammates, and have fun. Nobody came to the Halloween tournament to get screamed at over a missed serve.
Register
Registration is individual through VolleyballLife. Each level may be capped separately to keep teams balanced, so join the waitlist if it fills.
